A year ago, when the first lockdown was announced It was heart wrenchingly difficult to close our doors at Mount Falcon. However owner Alan Maloney took it upon himself to put an announcement in the local paper to let people know that even though the doors to Mount Falcon were closed the gates were wide open and he invited all to come and enjoy the estate. As the days and weeks went by Alan noticed how people were being transformed by the time they had to truly appreciate the natural world around them. This ignited in Alan the idea to immerse Mount Falcons Summer offering in nature and thus, with blind faith, he built an open-air heated Bamboo Tent on the Lawn incorporating an open-air Bar and a purposely built Assador Grill. The Cabaret nights in the tent were a huge success as were the long lazy brunches had al fresco as children played on the lawn.
This year Mount Falcon hopes to build on last years success. Our head chef Tom Doyle has created a fabulous new summer menu. We will now have all day dining in our new Orchard Café in our Bamboo Tent and our Assador Grill will be fired up at night. Our full menu, from Breakfast to our homemade wood fired Pizzas, to Tom’s fresh crab wasabi rolls will also be available to residents to take away whether to enjoy in the comfort of their Lodge or perhaps for a picnic by the River. A new summer cocktail menu is being mixed as we speak and it is with great excitement that we are compiling our live entertainment line-up (government guidelines permitting of course).
Mount Falcon is a fabulous estate to bring your family. We have a variety of three and four bed lodges nestled in different areas of our hundred-acre estate. The estate boasts 3km of woodland walks and cycling trails, an aviary full of peregrine falcons, Harris Hawks and Owls. A Clay shooting Range, an Archery range and a Golf Driving Range. The Estate has three miles of one of the best Salmon Rivers in Ireland running through its heart. Last year we had the best Salmon season in over ten years. You can avail of our family or individual fly-fishing lessons on our trout lake or take a Gilly and one of our boats for the day and truly immerse yourself in the river Moy. If Golf is your love, you can play three of Ireland’s top 20 Links courses in Ireland, Carne, Enniscrone and County Sligo from Mount Falcon.
You can also enjoy our sumptuous Elemis and Neom treatments in our beauty rooms or avail of our new aromatherapy yoga classes on the lawn with our yoga guru Virginia Canvaroué.
This summer we will also have a two-hour outdoor exercise and art activity workshop for children, A little school of raptors and our daily afternoon movie for children @3 in our tent with a complimentary freshly whipped cone.
We are also very privileged this summer to have Annie Gambrill with us to run her workshops in the ancient craft of Spinning and Loom weaving. A craft which has almost been lost to us is being passionately brought back to life by Annie and after two hours with her you will leave with your own piece of woven art or a skein of hand spun wool.
Mount Falcon is a place to feel safe, free and invigorated by the beauty which surrounds you. We are situated along the Wild Atlantic Way where there are many hours of adventuring to be had in this stunning region of rugged North Mayo.
P.S. Bring your wellies and your scooters … It’s that kind of place.
